Perth’s own rapper and creative juggernaut Mathas continues his unique genre-bending offerings with the upcoming release of his sophomore album Armwrestling Atlas, out Friday 30th October. A national tour will follow, kicking off in Melbourne’s Shebeen and finishing at WA’s newest festival, Disconnect, with six stops in between. A brooding and frank exploration of relationships, loss and Australian identity, the highly anticipated 13-track album has been a personal journey and a labor of love for Mathas, also known as Tom Mathieson, with a good half decade between album releases. Described as one of Australia’s most thoughtful and skilled lyricists, Mathas continues to raise the bar on Armwrestling Atlas exploring themes including indigenous issues, substance abuse, modern consumerism, the food, manufacturing industry and emotional development. Taking full creative control of his project, Mathas produced, recorded and mixed the album, even painting the album artwork. Mathas continues to garner a tidal wave of critical accolades and a stockpile of awards including the WAM Song of the Year Award2013, WAM Urban Artist of the Year 2012, 2013 and 2014 and was chosen as the triple j Next Crop Artist 2014.
